Switches
Ok this sounds bad but I have a sort of switch 'fettish' a childish spaceshippy idea that if I ever built a kit car I would have everything on dash switches and lots of the ones with the 'doomsday' covers, the big red cover that looks dangerous and you see in lots of films for firing guns and manly things like that Looking 'cool' by flicking them all on to fire it up (told you it was childish)
What are the IVA rules on these types of switch, are they ok being that they have a cover? Im probably going to use the sierra column with all the controls for ease at the moment but would like a starter button and flick switch at least, maybe having a 'kill switch' or similar? Had a similar set up in a land rover, I had a series 3 with discovery TDi engine, being petrol converted to diesel my ignition had no live feed required for the diesel pump, so I wired the pump up to a separate live feed with doomesday switch on the dash, lift cover and flick it on to fire her up (would just crank if the switch was off) and hence, flicking the cover down killed the engine when I was stopped. Childish but nicer than just turning a key in my mind, thats what my daily hack does.. So any ideas would be great, Thanks. |

I know the ones I dont think they are IVA friendly so you may have to use the smallest ones you can find then when they fall out of the dash use the ones you want

Thats the type. Read a thread where it was suggested not to use the covers or where you would need half round/u bolt type things either side of the switch? Is this needed with the cover or not or does the fact the flick switch has a cover count as it being protected or complying with required regs.?

mine didnt have the U bolts it just had the cover and that was fine at IVA though that was a few months back now might be worth phoning vosa and speaking to one of the "IVA Technical Officers " if you are still unsure

Thanks, that helps. Probably best as I guess each will have a slightly different view as to whats acceptable and whats not.
