Brake plumbing
Can someone please tell me which outlet from the master cylinder goes to the rear of the car?
I've got one on the side (nearest the pedal end of the cylinder), then one on the top at the front and one on the bottom at the front. (obviously it's not the one nearest the pedals), but is it the bottom one or top one? Also, do i use normal male fittings on the end of the pipes as they go through the chassis plates to the flexible pipes? Hope someone can please help.

It's the one nearest the pedal. If you were to take the MC assembly apart you would find two cylinders in line effectively. The back one has a single pipe running to the back of the car where it splits in two, there are separate outlets for each of the front brakes. Remember to put in a t piece to take the hydraulic switch if you are fitting one, also remember to make provision for the rear anti lock valve if you want to fit one, doing it at this stage is a lot easier than changing it all later.

makes sense when you think about it. lol cheers.
Are the flexi pipes cpnnected to the chassis plates just by putting the threads of the flared fitting through the hole before connecting up? Thanks again.

The flexi pipes fit to the chassis brackets, the flared end then screws on to the end of the flexi pipes. The rigid pipes do not go through the plates. The hose ends should be 1mm metric, fine thread.

Use a bulkhead fixing through a bracket and the thread is 10x1mm pitch.
The metal male end fixes to one end and the flexy goes to the other end. As Enoch says the flexy end should fit in the bracket. Mine are home made from Aeroquip, hence the bulkhead fitting. Last edited by flyerncle : 4th September 2010 at 04:27 PM. |

that above pic is great, but if you welded the plate that bolts the brakebacking plate to the hub at 45 degrees towards the back of the car then you could just use a straight piece of brake pipe instead of the "S" piece shown ( maybe a reason why you can't please let me know)
