Rear upright tube - tolerance
Hi!
I'm trying to source a 5inch, 127mm, tube. I've found a 130mm tube, would that tube work or should I order a 5inch tube from England? Thank you |

I would imagine that the wall thickness would be the most important thing
You'll almost certainly be able to make allowances for the extra 3mm OD when you fabricate the jig Just measured a piece of standard UK spec 5" pipe The wall thickness is 4.9 mm & the oD is 127.5 .... As steel sizes are nominal, I would not be surprised to find a piece of 5" pipe with an OD of 130mm nor as little as 125mm If the wall thickness is there, I would say, go for it.

Hi Pilip
No the book spec for the wall thickness has not been changed If you can get some pipe that has a wall thickness of at least 3mm & the OD is 130mm, that should be ideal for the job My 5" pipe just happened to be off-cuts from my suppliers standard stock & has a nominal wall thickness of 5mm .... Could have got 5" with a wall thickness of 3.25mm but would have had to buy a full length What you have found should be fine & will save the extra cost of obtaining from the UK.
