Default Pinto - Rocker Gasket leak

Quick one for you knoweldgeable chaps...

Cleaned the rocker cover yesterday and check the valve clearances. On further inspection I reckon all the cack and grease on the front of the block/belts/pulleys is coming from a leaking rocker cover gasket. Is the standard naff cork one actually any good, or can you use a liquid silicone one???

John,is the front oil seal ok. Try a new gasket with a little Blue Hylomar and not nipped excessively.

Its good enough for Rolls Royce so why not us mere mortals...

Do you put the Hylomar on one side of the gasket or on both??

I like to put a light smear on both faces of the gasket

The secret is not to overtighten the rocker cover retaining bolts & follow the correct tightening sequence.

Done my pinto engined Transit one last year, still as dry as a bone
