oil tell tale colour
oil warning lamps sould be red or amber?
all production cars are red right but at the show all the tell take lamp units where amber? reason i ask when i studied auto engineering design rule was if a lamp was red on your dash it was a hazard and you shoud stop the car when safe to do so, amber was a warning and green was a notifier. odd or is this just me? Surely oil, battery and over temp should all be RED since they are serious.
AMBER for Engine management lights, washer fluid low etc and GREEN for 4 wheel drive engaged etc. Why would an oil light be anything other than RED? since low oil pressure is almost engine failure if it hasnt already happened since its usually to late when it appears. |

All the older cars used amber for the oil, red for ign and green for the indicators.
Cant think when it all changed. Bob

So long as it comes on, and you see it. I don't think it matters.

My father told me that they used to Use a BIG light on the Dash and a relay that cut the ignition if the light came on when he used to race.
It required a bypass push button to start till the oil pressure light goes out or you can crank it over till you get oil pressure but risk Flooding the engine. I was also considering this option for my roadster. |
