Brake master cylinder
Hi guys, I know the book says to use a sierra master cylinder but is there anything stopping me from using say an escort or a mondeo

Apparently a Mk1 Fiesta one is a good replacement - search on Locostbuilders - seems a popular upgrade. I have just bought one from eBay - at a very good price (less than £20 delivered)
There will presumably be a good reason why Escort or Mondeo aren't useable - but I don't know...

Mondeo use pressure reducers in rear lines .

Here's what I bought - and an unusually low price (normally £40 or so apparently) - it arrived within a few days and looks fine.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-FIEST...item46131e240d Apparently... the Fiesta ones have smaller bore - which improves pedal feel. The ideal is a non-servo Mk1 Fiesta - but they are hard to find - next best is the M1 Fiesta servo - which is what i've linked to above - another option i've seen mention is a Fiat 124 master cylinder (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brake-Mast...item484597ba27 Why are you looking at Escort or Mondeo? Is it availability? If so i'll happily sell you my Sierra one from my donor...

All mondeos have abs and will have smaller master cylinders as the abs will reduce the pressure to keep the wheels from locking.
On something as light as the roadster that could give very snatchy brakes, even to the point of an on/off feel. It's all personal, but I like a fairly hard pedal, but these need more leg force to make the wheels lock. My plan is to use a motorsport master cylinder and play around with different size bores to find the one I like best, but I'm also thinking of keeping my donors abs as I need to give my ecu a speed signal. |

Bear in mind for MOT disconnected/non functioning ABS is fail.
