Default camber adjuster

HI All
I have been looking at some builder’s photos and have notice on some front upper wish bones they haven’t put an angle when using a camber adjuster. As it looks cosmetically better what are the pros and cons of no angle. Looking in CKC at Ash’s build IV notice has no angle or off-set mushroom. Will the set up work OK?

look harder it does have the angle and ofset mushroom

To be honest you could get away with out the angle if you made a mushroom that did the angle and ofset centre. From what i can see the angle is there so that th ball joint runs on its center. If you didint have it the ball joint will run at a constant strange angle putting all sorts of strange forces on the wishbone.

Its debateable but if mnr mk etc etc do it there must be a good reason

Unless my physical intuition is failing me majorly, the forces on the wishbone are the same regardless of the angle of the ball joint. Probably the reason for the angle is that a constant angle forces would wear out the joint quickly, or maybe it would not have enough range for full travel of the wishbone.

"or maybe it would not have enough range for full travel of the wishbone."
This makes more sense to me,as the possibilty of the joint locking if it was not at the angle it is seems more likely.

It's exactly as Ash says, it put's the ball joint in the centre of it's movement, there is a possibility that the joint would "lock" at the end of it's angular travel without it. The joint might also wear more quickly as the ball would be constantly wearing one side of the socket.

Incidently it's probably good practice to replace the joints periodically, 15,000 miles or three years, worn joints can produce odd handling.

Cheers

Chris
