Electronic Semi Auto Gear shifting in a Motorbike Engined Car
Hi all,
This is my first post so bear with me!!! I'm still in the planning stages of my build, just finishing off the "Build your own off road buggy" project. So i think i've got a few things sorted in my mind and definatly (I think) want to go down the bike engine route. So I was just wondering if anyone has got any info on electronic shifting systems. Obviously bike engines are already semi automatic but i'm trying to find a kit that will automatically disengage the clutch electronically and change gear, therefore doing away with me operating clutch pedal. I don't even know if such a kit exists but thought i better ask the question. Hope someone can help, Luke. |

Hi Luke,
There's a lot of information about shifters in the BEC pages of locostbuilders http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?fid=23 between the two sites, there's no questions that can't be answered. Kind regards John

Well right or wrong I never used the clutch going up the box but then it was an LC headbangers bike anyway....

unless like i had on my race bikes you had a "quickshifter" this allowed me to keep the throttle on the stop even when changing up this was worth a few yards per lap "Quickshifters" are not cheap tho, between £300 to £500 per kit. cheers andy

If you are going that far get one of
these. They take a little getting used to but are the way forward. IMHO Cheers Ginge

It may be worth seeing if you can drive a BEC first to see if you still think you do/don't need one. It may turn out to be a lot of expense for little gain if you only plan on using it on the road (IMHO)

if you buy this months complete kitcar magazine there is a big fat section in the middle about bike engines. think there is going to be a second part to it at some point too.
