Default IVA Dash

It may sound dumb... maybe... but do I need to have a squishy dash to pass the IVA? Is it enough to have the 19mm radius and no sharp edges? Local company can flock a dash blank for me for free. Free stuff is my 2nd favourite thing to hear.

depends what clocks you are putting into your dash, as if you have a squishy" dash then any clocks will have the " sunken effect" and so no radius probs on the clocks / dials,

As for the 19mm radius on the under side, Ash & i were discussing this the other day & basically the 19mm radius needs to go under ( out of sight) & = a 38mm total radius,

or use a squishy dash & carry the foam/flock right under so that no sharp edges can be felt under the dash.

hope that makes sense ?

by the way ...if free stuff is your second favourite saying, whats your first ?

cheers
andy

you can have a non padded dash but it has to have a 19mm radius above your legs which is basically 38mm diameter (38mmthick) rounded off. Its best to go a bit bigger just to be safe. the other option is a padded dash which has to have a minimum thickness of 5mm with padding on top. The padding needs to be 60shure which is about the same squigyness as the sierra steering wheel. Basically if they cant feel the hard bits under the padding then your ok.

Quick question to Saturn seeing as we are on the radius issue. When I bought my bodywork from Triton before he sold the moulds I got a free dash panel included in the set.

It has a radius on the bottom of it, but it is not 38mm wide. ie not a fully semi circle.

Will this pass IVA, as the way I read previous posts it wont.

Thanks for any clarification.

Gus

Understand what you mean Gus, i was sold the mold as an SVA compliant Dash (rules are the same for IVA, 19mm radius). So i have assumed that it is.

I will make sure though and get back.

Cheers...AndyH

Andy,

Did you ever manage to find out if the Triton / Saturn dash panel I have will pass IVA for bottom radius requirements?

Thanks

Gus

Hi Gus,

Mark has just called regarding the Dash, has been away on hols for 2 weeks.

The 1/4 circle 19mm radius on the bottom of the dash is fine as long as the bottom of the bend terminates at the horizontal or beyond. If in doubt he recommends an easy fix of foam pipe lagging split and duct taped to the bottom of the dash to make it look permanent then only a 5mm radius is required.

Another solution is plywood covered in foam then vinyl, again, only required 5mm for a soft edge.

Hope this helps.....AndyH
