Default New Guy

I would like some input about engine trans, rear end combinations.I started my project about 3 weeks ago. I have the frame almost completed. My choices for engines are a Mazda Miata. The car has 32000 miles on it. It is an 06 so it has a 2 liter engine with 4 valves per cyl. The HP is 170. also has a 6 speed auto trans with paddle shift. Second choice is a Mazda rx8. The rotary is 1.3 liter, but if I can find a 6 speed it is 250 HP. If I use the rx8 I don't know what difficulties I will have with the front and rear suspension . I don't know if I should halt my build and wait to measure the rx8 or to go ahead and continue to build and then modify to fit. Does any one have the answer. Has anyone ever used a Honda s 2000 engine and drive train? I know the rotary is very light and is powerful. I don't rate these as 1,2,or 3 as my choices. I am open to some input. Thanks, Gaylon

Your in major luck if your going RX8

Andy H from Saturn Sports cars is building an RX8 demonstrator at the moment so any issues you can bounce of each other.

The Rotary is ideal for the light car.

Welcome Gaylon, good to see yet another new builder.

We are indeed putting together a rotary / rx-8 based demonstrator, if you search on the forum you will see progress sofar. The engine will fit easily in a standard chassis the only mods required are to fit the starter motor on the passenger side of the tranny tunnel. The only thing left to resolve is the rear drive train / uprights and ecu system although there are after market systems available. It is almost a rolling chassis but masses of other work are slowing progress at the minute.

Just pm if there is anything we can help with regarding the build.

Regards...Andrew
