Default 'E' Marks.

Hi All,

I have my lighting package sorted now and everything is 'E' marked other than my front indicators.

Looking through the IVA Manual I cant find anything that actually says that any of the lights other than the rear fog light must carry an 'E' Mark anyway.

It is mentioned in a few places but only in an "if it has an 'E' mark..." or "When compared to an 'e' marked item..."

Am I missing something? Do they need 'E' Marks or not?

Cheers
Stot

Mine aren't E marked. The only checked the fog for my IVA. All the others, they just tested the angles, visibility and alignment. I don't think there is a requirement for E marks.

Although my fog actually carrys a F mark, just to confuse things.

I must have just got hooked up on E marks then. Could have gone for those Lucas P700 headlights after all!

Cheers

My understanding is that they have to meet a set of standards. A quick'n'easy way of proving they meet these standards is to use things that are 'e' marked - these definitely meet the standards because that's how they come to be 'e' marked. That doesn't mean things that aren't 'e' marked automatically fail - I assume it's just more complicated to prove they meet the standard...

It's like saying having a driving licence proves you know how to drive. Doesn't mean people without driving licences don't know how to drive...

E11 mark actually means very little as E11 is UK Approval, but does not specify what the item is approved for. Some lamps are further marked to identify them as Ash found out at his 1st IVA when his car failed.

For me it will only be the front indicators that arent externally E marked and these will have E2 marked bulbs in them so should easilly satisfy being - as bright as an equivalent E marked unit.
