What wet weather gear?
Hi all,
I'm very pleased to announce that the car recently passed IVA (Exeter) at first attempt. I would like to express my gratitude to this forum and it's members for the endless input and advise along the way (2.5 years!). I could not have done it without the information on here. The recent dry spell has been very timely and allowed a lot of driving time and the opportunity to fine tune suspension, steering and megasquirt. Currently I have the Saturn GRP body kit with aeroscreen. So now I am looking to fit a windscreen and full hood to make it south west country rain proof! Has anyone on here fitted wet weather gear to the Haynes Roadster? I suppose wet weather gear/windscreen from other "kits" may be possible? The possibilities include GBS Zero, Caterham S3 or Classic, Westfield SE,Tiger Avon, MK Indy to name just a few. I'm not sure of the chassis widths on any of the above cars and how it compares to the Haynes Roadster. The alternative is to make it bespoke from scratch There is also the possibility of making a GRP hardtop. Any advise/discussion on the above would be appreciated, thanks in advance. Andy, these pics were taken just prior to IVA, I'll take some more this weekend and repost. Have now replaced the Sierra steering wheel with a nice 11" job off ebay.

May I ask.....are you running a Brake Bias bar ? ( noticed the position of your brake fluid res ) sorry to go off thread topic Look forward to seeing more pics cheers andy

Andy , There is no bias bar. Getting the brake pedal "feel" right was a long, long battle! Originally fitted the Sierra donor master cylinder and could not get rid of the spongy feel. So then fitted a new Fiat 124 (19mm bore) Master cylinder with the remote fluid reservoir as in the pic. This resulted in too much pedal travel for my liking so reverted with a new Sierra master cylinder which eventually worked out OK. Had to bleed the system countless times to get it right. the front brakes are 260MM dia. discs with 60mm dia. caliper piston and drum rear brakes with std Sierra slave cylinders. There are no devices from the donor car in the brake lines. The IVA tester was well satisfied with the balance, with the fronts locking up first. On the way through I discarded the in-line hydraulic brake stop light switch and went for a mechanical switch operated off the brake foot pedal pushrod.

Probably wouldn't be too difficult to find some wet weather gear for your Roadster. My new build is also a wider bodied 7 & came with a laminated windscreen. Out of interest I offered the screen up to the roadster scuttle & it was not far off the mark. Nothing a mounting plinth or revised scuttle wouldn't have cured. Enjoy the Roadster experience

congratulations
is that the first roadster seen at exeter? i would love to know how you got on as its my local testing station (spitting distence) also was there any points picked up on the design of the car? |

Baz, not the first, gus's car was tested in Exeter last year. According to the tester there is a regular trickle of locost type vehicles going through.
The inpection process was very thorough, lasting just over four hours. The main issue was the emissions which I was allowed to tweak into range. No other potential showstoppers thank goodness. In retrospect it was quite an enjoyable process! After the test went straight round to the DVLA office and much to my surprise came away with an age related reg number and a road taxed! well done on the pass. i can tell you that a gbs zero one wont fit its actually about two inches too wide for the saturn scuttle.
