coilover covers
Would these be any good to get through the IVA 100mm radius test?

The actual shock itself is in an area that is not tested with the dreaded 100mm mushroom. The trapazoidal shape created inside of the wishbone frames is exempt.

That's what I thought, especially on the front. On another point though, if that area is exempt surely then there is no need to try and cut the side panel around the coil over and wishbone ends? Other than for aesthetic reasons?

Hmmmmm....
IVA Section 16 Exterior projections. "Items within the volume enclosed by suspension components are exempt from exterior projection assessment." "Where a vehicle consists of a frame structure or the surface has holes or sections without body panels fitted, all parts that are accessible with a 100mm sphere from the exterior of the vehicle are assessed against the criteria of this section, however where such items are deemed to be located within the interior of the vehicle, this section will only apply where they are located no more than 200mm from the outermost external surface surrounding the hole/gap and they are not an exempt item as listed in the Inspection Requirements of section 12." |

I think if you read it and read it again it makes more sense (not) and is applicable to vehicles without bodywork that have sharpish edges that could be contacted or there again I could totally wrong.
I am fairly sure that area within the wishbone does not count and think Kev and I had the same idea pre his IVA.

yep correctamundo....remember you need some kind of locking device fitted to the bottom spring seat to stop in yurning, (the one you would use a "C" spanner on)

Would a grub screw in the spring seat count for that?

probably....but I was concerned that it might weaken that point and make it prone to fracture, what with the forces that are on them
