Default Heating hoses

When it comes to the heating hoses, originally leading the water to the interior heating radiator, do I need to keep the water circulating in a closed circuit (bypass, no radiator installed, inlet and outlet connected by a hose running around the engine) or can I just simply blank the pump and thermostat in/out with NPT plugs ?

Engine a Sierra 2.0i DOHC.

You would be safer putting in a loop to continue the flow otherwise you may encounter cooling problems.

It depends on how the original system bypassed the heater control valve to supply cool air.

Do you mean that if the original heating valve simply closes the heating circuit for cool air supply (no more water circulation), I can blank the in/out on my engine, but if the original valve bypass the water flow out of the heating radiator for cool air supply (water always circulates, through the radiator for warm air, our of the radiator for cool air), it is better to make a loop and let the water always circulate on my engine?

If I understood you correctly, the problem is that I have no idea how the original Sierra DOHC heater control valve works

I'm going to have a look in the repair manual to check if I can find anything about that.

Unless anyone around here knows?

Paul is correct. You risk interfering with the normal circulation of the cooling system. I would just create a shorter loop.

A lot of 80's/90's cars don't have a heater valve, just a blend flap in the air box.

Valves are more common these days with climate control.

Thank you for the replies.

I actually already have installed this loop, so I'm going to keep it, it's not a very big deal. But this loop just looks totally useless, so I was wondering if I could remove it to make a bit more room in the engine bay : these hoses are always in the way of something

TT, which one of the two systems you describe is the one that could be completely suppressed (blanking the in/out ports on the engine) without interfering with the global cooling of the engine, if there is one ? And do you know which one of them was the original set-up on the Sierra ?

You could always make something smarter out of plumbing pipe and that would look nice

Used to fit LPG system many moons ago and if you were not careful when the heater was turned off the water supply to the heater and in turn the evaporator,it would freeze up due to not being heated because it bypassed the heater .
