No Enthusiasm with Build - steering
I really want to do my build but I have no enthusiasm for it.
Ive got to the steering, its all installed and the extension hits the book engine mounts. I've moved the column bush up as high as possible without it hitting the top rail and it still isn't right. As you can see the extension tube is well off the uj on the steering rack. Can anyone point me in the right direction with what to buy (as much as I don't want to spend money i'm going to have to) |

The other thing is when it comes to mounting the harnesses. Should I go through the seats or not. Going round the transmission tunnel is fine the other side however leaves no clearance and would still run past the seat.

I replaced the doughnut with a group 4 escort metal u/j,if you made everything to book spec it should fit although a little close to the brace at the front. The rack should lie flat on the support frame.

I have the same problem with the harnesses, so i have put them around the seat for now and when i've had the IVA done, i will run them through the seats again.

I have troubles of my own with alignment of Sierra steering to the Escort 2 rack....
However, I could not fail to notice the lower wishbone nut as marked in pic below. The locknut is useless without thread going through it, and good practice learned as an apprentice is to have at least 3 threads protrude through a nut at all times. |

Cheers for pointing that out mate, I bought the wrong size bolts for the job and have longer ones but not fitted them yet. I think the finger tight nylock would also fail IVA.
Here is a pic of the back. I hope there is enough thread for IVA as I couldn't see anything in the manual. Are the washers essential or not as this would give an extra 4mm or so. Last edited by SeriesLandy : 4th August 2011 at 08:25 PM. |

Have a look at my build diary, there is an easy fix using a rose joint mounted of the engine mount with an additional group 4 coupling and splined shaft. Hope it helps. (This option cost a bit more money but is mechanically correct) If you need any other advise then PM me
