Default Mig any good?

Morning all. Just wanted to ask peoples opinion on this mig.

Will it be anygood for welding of the chassis and plates or should I save some more and buy a more expensive set up?

Cheers, Ryan.

Hi Ryan

A little under powered for the plate work

150 amps is the minimum you should be looking for.

This one is a very popular choice

Clarke Mig Welder

Shop about & watch out for Machine Mart VAT free days

As Ronnie say's, you may find it a little underpowered.
I had a simlar Clarke machine, and found it overheated quite easly.
I could only weld at full power for a couple of minutes.

I finaly gave up and just bought a Clarke 160EN from Machine Mart
In their VAT free day for £239.

Haven't tried it yet, but it's got to be better than the old one.

Im on a tight budget so I am looking to get set up as cheeply as I can.

I have found this on ebay with free postage. Does anyone have any knowledge of this brand of welder?

Cheers, Ryan.

I think (as in I'm sure I have read somewhere) that the Siegen Sealeys are really basic versions, with less quality control, from China, as opposed to Italy.

Have a look on mig welding forum

Just do a search for "Siegen" on there, not very good reports in general I'm afraid.

Especially this thread

There are usually a few 'hobby' welders for sale on there as well - like this one

For the money, the Clarke range are pretty good value, and there is decent enough backup from them (not the chumps who work the counter at MM).

If you are only going to use it for this one project, then go ahead with the Siegen, but I plan on keeping mine for a looong time, thats why I got a portamig (British built)

Weldequip is his username. Steve is his real name.

He's a nice guy, knowledgeable, and well priced.

I got my Portamig from him and it turned up when he said it would.
