The ones that hold the gearbox on to the engine are good enough .

On many engine stands the gearbox bolts aren't long enough. I used to bolt Rover V8s to stands with lengths of ordinary studding, never had one drop off. Probably best to get the correct length of bolts from a bolt and nut stockists, though, they will have plenty of 8.8 or better.
Have you identified the threads yet? If not, may I suggest investing in a calipers and a thread gauge, and a Zeus book |

is an m44 a bmw unit ???????
if so will surely be metric very rare to see metric fine in a bell housing i would guess at normal metric/coarse and if you go into any good fastener shop with a bolt in your hand and ask for 4/6 the same but longer they should be able to help you out cheers les g |

Yeh m44 is BMW. I have the bolts for an m20 in the garage if they are any use. Just pay postage. They're metric on bm's but vary in length around the gearbox.

best bet then would be to buy a meter of the correct size stud bar and a handful of nuts and washers and cut the stud bar to suit your own needs
i would say if you now what thread (m8/m10/m12/m14)or have a bolt as pattern even places like b&q or focus are cheap for stud bar and nuts ideal for mounting your engine on your engine stand dont forget a few largish washers you dont want the nuts pulling through the slots in the engine stand cheers les Last edited by les g : 15th July 2009 at 11:14 PM. |

I forgot about the bosses attached the the stand to fit over the flywheel.
Be carefull with studding, unless you specifiy high tensile it may be just mild steel and is not that strong, that engine probably weighs 150 kilos plus and I for one would not fancy it falling on me. |
