Could you not diagnose the fault and then fix it? e.g. if its smoking a lot then it could be the valve stem seals?

edit: I have no idea how to diagnose the problems either. I did a compression test on it today as well i got them all at about 95-105 psi. Any idea? im really hoping to find a cheap cvh that'll probably be cheaper than fixing the engine.

The valve stem oil seals are a known problem on the CVH engine .... The engine will smoke like a pig when the seals have lost their softness
Edit Hmmm Black & sooty .... That sounds like a fuel problem !! Sent my good CVH engine to the breakers

Im just taking a stab in the dark here and im sure someone more knowledgeable will comment. Could it be the mixture running far too rich, meaning some fuel isn't getting burn't, giving incomplete combustion, thus giving the black smoke?

how would i fix it, ive already tried messing about with the idle fuel settings, could something be wrong with the choke, although when on full throttle, i pushed the choke fully open with a screwdriver, and there was less smoke, but still a hell of alot

I wondered one thing, on hybrid ignition module end on the vacuum valve tubing, it goes to 2 tubes, one to the vacuum valsve, where does the other go?

A rich mixture could be caused by either 2 things, too much fuel or too little air, i'm afraid i dont know much about carbs, but have you done much in terms of cleaning them using some car cleaner since you got them?
I definitely think you should try and find the cause of the issue instead of buying a new CVH engine, as it could have exactly the same issue. Are you using the standard carb or bike carbs?

Well, if it's not blue smoke that's good news, blue smoke comes from burning oil - black smoke comes from a mixture problem. The fact that it reduces when you open the choke is good, as soon as it has some warmth in it the choke should be fully open - I assume yours is autochoke? Try disconnecting it and keeping the choke open for starters. Is the choke air inlet open or do you have an air filter? If you have a filter, take it off for now, see if it makes it better. I don't know the carb on your engine but I would be about 90 per cent certain that's where your problems lie. Your car is running seriously rich - an air leak would make it run lean, the only thing that can make it run rich is overfueling which is down to the carb.

everything is standard, I know very little about carbs as well, almost nothing, but im always ready to learn . If i knew what the problem was id be more than happy to fix it, but i don't want to waste my money on a lost cause at the same time.
