CVH mounting

Hi all,
I seem to remember that if you try to use the existing CVH engine mounts then the steering column will foul it? Can anyone remind me, I can't find it with a search so wondering if it was pre-forum "wipe" :)

Hi Jeff,

you are correct in your thinking..... to a point :D

you can use the nearside original cvh engine mount but not the offside as it does indeed foul the steering column, so you,ll need to fabricate one.

I made mine from 10mm plate for the engine mount point, 2 sections of 25mm box tube welded together & a 5mm plate for the rubber base pointing point.

might be a pic in my "Big day" thread of the offside mount i made.

cheers

Thanks, Andy - I knew I wasn't going barking mad... guess I better sort the column out and then finalise the engine/gearbox mounts from there.

thats the order that i did mine too Jeff, once the column is in you can then see what space you have to work within.
have fun :)

Jeff,
I fabricated both sides in the end as I was unhappy where the engine mount was placed relative to the chassis rails. I fabricated the column side after I had installed the column and finished the mount on the other side

I believe that for what it takes to remake both engine brackets i would certainly recommend it. So far i have seen two sierra engine mounts split at the rubber joint due to perished rubber. Land Rover engine mounts are cheap and stiffer and do the job very well, sierra mounts are very expensive to replace.

Thanks, guys - I think I'll fabricate new mounts for both sides. For the engine mounts, are you using Land Rover V8 ones like these:

Ive just ordered a pair of these engine mountains but does anyone have the dimmensions, ie height and diameter so I make a pair of dummy units and can crack on with engine mounting before they arrive.
