A full needle sweep is more or less standard for any digital gauge, although usually one would only expect it after a battery replacement.

Many gauges now use these stepper motors with drive circuitry over older technologies, the cost of the stepper motor and its drive circuit is now just a couple of pounds...

It's got me thinking, I have had a lot of PCB's done over the last few months for a number of projects.. A digital dash is EASY, but one with real dials would be fun.... you could even make it act like a Hi-Fi VU meter for your stereo when the ignition is off...
