Default auto gearbox

Hi,

I know this is not really a roadster gearbox but you never know what people want.

I have an auto gearbox off a granda cosworth (k reg) came out a running car I was told when I got it.

Any offers? Will hear any kind of swap or deal for it needs to get it gone.

On this,

If you use the scorpio cosworth one, you can buy a transmission controler that allows you to select all gears electronicaly.

That allows you to have flappy paddle gearbox with 6 gears effectivly although the gearing may be very similar on some combinations and may put too much strain on the trans

The granada box does not have full electronic control though.

Not sure off hane, have a look on www.fordscorpio.co.uk

But what you get are.. under control of the normal PCM

1
2
3
3 + Over drive

Now if you control the overdrive with a third part transmission controler..

1
2
3
1 + OD
2 + OD
3 + OD

From what I've read the slushbox on Granada Cosworth's is the weak point, it certainly was on the one I bought. Personally I wouldn't bother with a traditional slush box auto, an auto shifted manual is a different kettle of fish though and I'd jump at the chance of one for the right money.

The granada can strip spliens on the input shaft if the transmission lockup engages at the wrong time as this puts too much strain on the input shaft. Other than that they aint too bad. Certainly no worse than any other moden auto.

The nice thing with an auto is the lack of need for clutch and gear select when accelerating hard. My old Volvo T5 auto could outperform a manual up to the legal limit from a standing start.

From waht I've read the Granny slusher is prone to brake band wear which causes fluid contamination which causes valve blockage which causes trouble selecting the gears...............exactly the problems with the box in my car. i accept that this is only one unit I have experience of but I've read quite a few reports of similar failures. It would appear the slushbox fitted to the Cosworth Granny just wasn't up to the torque being thrown at it.

As I said before, an ASM box would be fantastic in a roadster with flappy paddle shift but a trad slushbox, no thanx!
