The spigot bearing is a caged set of needle bearings.

The reason as to why you need to fit one is to support the end of the input shaft of the gearbox at the flywheel.

Ford front wheel drive cars have a very short gearbox input shaft & a spiggot bearing is not needed at the flywheel.

The Ford type 9 & MT75 gearboxes have very long input shafts & need to be supported at the flywheel.

No big deal to fit one as the flywheel is pre drilled ready to accept one ;)

Will the one out of the 2.0 dohc engine that came with the gearbox fit as i'm not using that engine?
Or are the different sizes?

Sorry to have misslead you a little .... When I say that the gearbox shaft is supported at the flywheel. I in fact mean, supported in the crankshaft.

for some silly reason I thought if I said flywheel it would be easier to understand :o :o
Forgive me, I have had a stressfull day :)

The spiggot bearing fits in the crankshaft ( This will be drilled, ready to accept the new bearing )

It is highly unlikey that you would be able to remove the old one without destroying it.
Probably be wise to use a new one in any event, there could be a fair bit of wear on the old one ;)

Not to worry Bonzo, a new one is only £15.56 with VAT and delivery from Ford parts direct:D

They're a lot cheaper at the bearing factors. Code HK1516. I got mine for 75p :-P, even though they're normally £2-5 depending on the make.

After a search of the net i have found a drawing of the spacer that westfield araldite the the standard bearing:)

I think i'll get one made up at work but not really sure what the best material to use would be?

It says on the drawing that it has to me 19mm depth but, different people say different things ranging from 19mm, 19.5mm or 20mm

Thought other people might find this useful (maybe the andy's at saturn could undercut westfield on this and make it more available to the public;) )

I would try making an extension tube to mount over the the clutch release bearing mounting tube to give as much surface area as possible for it to ride on.
Westfield must know what works and what does not,my humble opinion is that it looks like a possible problem in a fairly short time in the way it is "glued". :eek:
