Propshaft.
Who's done the prop themself?
How did you go about it? If not, who have you used? TT |
My join is approx 100mm from g/box end where i inserted an internal tube that was a tight fit into both halves of the prop, welded all round after having a 5mm gap between the 2 parts of the prop for penetration including spacer tube. :)

I tried to modify my own Rob and at the time thought i had got it perfectly straight and the same orientation as the original - until my first drive.....
It nearly shook the car to bits at 40mph. For such a critical part it really is not worth trying to do yourself. Dunning and Fairbank in Leeds are really good and will supply a brand new prop for about £95. Very good they are to. AndyH |
Yeah I have already e-mailed D&F. And your right £95 aint at all bad for a brand new item that's done correctly.
Once the car is rolling I will be measuring the installed dimensions and making arangments. ;) TT |
I`ll second Nth West propshafts, rang them with dimensions and they made it within the hour then delivered it the next day, top class work and really helpful chap on the phone.
Dennis. |
I modded my own prop.
Worked out OK, no vibes at all. The only prob with mine is I still got the rubber doughnut. Now I got the new engine Im going for a new prop. D&F quoted me the same price, with all new stuff. So going with them when I get back.... |
Have D&F got a web site David ?
Failing that, has anyone got a phone number for them :) Going to be in the same boat as you mate .... If I make my own. I am going to be stuck with that awfull rubber donut & it don't clear the tunnel enough for my liking ;) Hopfully, i'll be ready for my prop in the next few weeks :) |
|
Silly question,do they use the old bits of original prop or are they completely new.
Reason for asking is that I have two props, one Sierra minus front doughnut and another minus the rear part, from center joint backwards so no diff flange. |
All new for ~£100 which given how quick these two companies turn round seems excelent.
Perhaps we should try and organise a forum member discount with either of them.. Or a bulk Buy ( only problem being the difference in lenght. However all type 9's will use same construction. TT |
Check the condition of the dog chew if your reusing, any cracking should resign it straight to the bin.
TT |
Yes Paul. I believe they do
I spoke to one suplier at Stoneleigh last year, all they needed was the distance from the gearbox tail stock & diff flange, size of diff flange, input spline count & desired power rating. The new prop is made from all new components .... Bailey Morris, I think it was :) I would have a crack at my own .... Just don't want to use that stupid donut, besides it's not in the finest of condition .... Probably kiss goodbye to a fair few quid buying a new donut !!?? ;) |
Methinks I type way too slow :o :o :D :D

Thanks Ronnie :D

There is a prop specialist in the north east and they do lots of kit car props.
Comercial Propshafts in TVTE £120 +vat. Knew exactly what I required and made in one day,I have used them before and the quality is second to none,he did say they have made many kit car shafts and comented that he did not see many around so it would seem like many get started and not finished. |
when ever i needed a prop when i was fitting i always used the extended one or two for me i converted a 4x2 tractor to a mid lift and needed a longer prop
