A bit of degreasing, wire brush and paint with Hammerite is as good a job as any. Use the smooth finish. Done this a few times long lasting tough finish.

i did my block and head with spray can hamerite. gives a much better finish but you have to make sure that you cover up every little nook and cranny.

took the best part of 3days to get it like that. the only way to get a really nice clean engine is to fully strip degrease, de-rust, degrease again, wash off in solvent bath, then paint.

I used the POR engine paint - expensive but seems great so far.

well my engine has been run up to heat more than a few times and there are no signs of it coming off. have painted other engines in previous cars and it always seemed to last

Hammerite is good for 300 C before it starts to blister. I once painted a steam engine boiler with it and that regularly went up to 150-175C with no discolouration or other problems, I also used Hammerite primer on that job.

Ash
Is it also OK to use on the brake calipers and Diff without too much preparation?
