Battery Location

Am I missing a trick here? I notice most people mount theres up on the scuttle, but what about the area in front of the passenger footwell but behind the engine mount? Seems like an ideal area and would get a nice heavy bit low down.

Anyone done this?

Hi David,

I suppose it depends on which engine you have, as I,m just finishing off my exhaust down pipe ( CVH engine ) & my down pipe exits precisely where you are suggesting to put the battery,

My battery is up on the scuttle as I have the GRP bulkhead from Saturn & it has a purpose made recess for the battery ( with a little cutting to allow battery to sit flush ), this also made me think to put all my "Checkable " components along the same scuttle area.......
battery, relay bank, fuse boxes, expansion bottle, oil catch tank & the ignition module are all along the scuttle bulkhead.

cheers

So there may be an advantage to having a Pinto :p

I suspect the battery would end up below my carbs so could make swapping it at a later date difficult - but how often do you change the battery!? Are you using the standard sierra battery or have you gone for something smaller?

HandyAndy 8th July 2010 02:13 PM

well a pinto also makes a good anchor :D :D sorry couldn,t resist.

i,m not sure if Mr IVA man would be happy with the battery sitting under the carb/s.......fuel + battery hmmmmm......not a pleasant thought  ( just my humble opinion tho)

Well you know how tight my budget is...........so i,ve used the battery that came with my donor, it looked fairly new so thought I,d do my bit & recycle it :D

cheers

It's fine to mount it there if the exhaust comes out the driver's side. Lots of us have the exhaust coming out to the left so it's best to mount the battery "up top" away from the heat.

Hmmm - sounds like it might be a plan :p

What sort of battery size is everyone using - the original that came out of my sierra was whopping!

hah you should see the one out of my Stagea its like a truck battery!

I have my red top 25 inside the passenger footwell.

Steve:) :)

Coozer

Am I right in thinking that you're running a Duratec? Does the red top crank it over ok?

Coozer 13th July 2010 10:09 AM

Its a ST170 and that battery got through the 1 1/2 year build stage and now 2 years on the road without any charging.

It turns it over no problem whatsoever. Plus it can be mounted flat as well.

LG,
Steve
