D7 and D8 Question
 

have tacked these in place but they are sticking up 8mm from SB2 i have the 151mm gap from SB1 to BR12 so my angle must be good TR3 and 4 were bloody perfect with the 85 deg angle...is this ok ? was thinking of cutting a slice in D7 and 8 and flattening them to SB1 and welding ....any ideas ??

have you removed the bottom flat at the 40 degree end of D7 & D8, ?

as in the diagram at the top of page 165 "remove material on fabrication"...

this may account for the problem.

AHHHH YA BARSTEWARD.....i hought i had read the book...but i would only have seen that had i cut my own metal !!....many thanks...resisting the urge to go back out and fire up the grinder....

:D ;) no probs, glad I helped, but then , I was the one that cut your kit, any queries just shout, total back up etc....

I,m a sad geek:o didn,t need to look in the book for the above info.....as it happens tho, i,d just cut those same bits for another kit:)

Spent ages going through the book so as I could give some help ( Remembered a similar problem when I did mine )

Thanks very much...just back in from garage and will buff the tacks of tomorrow and see what happens ...am hoping it wont throw the rest of the measurements as they were pretty damn good ...

I wish all parts suppliers would offer that sort of service, not just for cars, but in my line of work.

Nothing wrong with being a geek, its something you specialise in, and its good to see you take that much of an interst in your job!! i know of alot of people who work 7.30 til 5.00 and not do much in that time.

I just really enjoy the chassis aspect of the build, & if I see a chassis build question/thread I try to help, any builder, not just to builders of kits that I cut.

AndyB....hope it solves the problem, let me know how you get on....couldn,t resist the urge to "fire up the grinder" then?? :D

Andy...that tip to remove the flat worked a treat ....dead giveaway when i de-tacked it and saw "REMOVE" written on it !!! i am a diddy....have another question ...i have assembled and tacked on the rear frame...i have a spirit level accross RS6 comparing it with the spot on SB6...RS6 is down on one edge about 2mm (bubble touching left line)...how exact does this need to be ?

:D ;) no worries about the "Remove" instruction, glad it sorted the problem.

Sorry for late reply on this, been mega busy.
If the rear frame is just tacked, if poss try & "tweek" it so that you get it as level as possible, maybe wedge something underneath it resting on the build table to keep it level whilst you weld it, but make sure if doing that it doesn,t throw the other side out.
Personally I would try & get it spot on if you can, are you sure its the frame & not the build table dipping slightly on that side?
