Clutch pedal Bending

Has anyone else noticed that the clutch pedal is rather weak?

I popped the engine in a couple of evenings ago, hooked the clutch cable and lent into the tub to actuate the pedal. As I pushed the pedal (slightly offset load) forward it promptly bent sideways! I seem to remember another member (Dogwood??) having this problem on his car at a set of traffic lights.

I plan on adding gussets to either side of the pedal of the pedal to strengthen it up.

Anyone else encountered this problem?

yep same problem, just make it out of thicker plate or add a brace to it

Yep, me too, haven't addressed it yet!

Glad it's not just me - perhaps some of the manufacturers on here should include extra braces as part of their kits?

adrian h was the one that ben his pedal while trying to race another car off the lights lol. 5mm plate is a much better solution to the problem :D

Same here, promptly changed to 6mm after the first drive out!

Cheers Adrian - that's exactly what I am planning.

Nope weren't me.
I made mine out out of 5mm as well

I did change to hanging peddles as I found the Roadster ones a bit short for my plates of meat

I think I saw Handy or spud say that Saturn also use 5mm plate for the clutch pedal. I had some 4 mm strip lying around so I tried that.

spud69 11th December 2010 12:41 PM

Same happened to mine, 3mm just isn't enough so they are all cut out of 5mm now.

Cheers...AndyH
