Just an observation Misty but the 2 following points spring to mind !!??

1: The joiner that has been welded nearest the steering wheel end has possibly ruined the integrity of the collapse-able element of the steering column.

This triangular section of the shaft is designed to kick the steering column & steering wheel to one side in the event of a severe frontal impact.
A collapse-able section to the steering column is a mandatory element of the IVA test & if memory serves me right, must be type approved.

2: You will need some kind of bearing / bush to support the steering column, without this support you are not likely to be able to keep the steering column rigid enough to meet IVA requirements.

The above points are just my own personal understanding of the current IVA regulations.

I think you'll struggle with the collapsible requirement, with this particular design.

nope thats a good and proper fail. no collapsible device and there isnt enough deflection in the haynes design to get away without having built in collapsibility.

you also have no support bearing on the upper part of the column near the uj.

may i ask why did you hack it up like that? you are going to need a new steering column now.
