Exhaust System
I'm starting to look into how I'm going to setup my exhaust system and any advice would be great :) I'm running a 1.8 cvh on bike carbs with a rs turbo exhaust manifold so far. The kind of thing I'd like to know is what sort of pipe diameter do I want going from the manifold to the silencer (as doesn't this affect flow rate which affects bhp?) and what sort of silencer is a good but reasonably priced? I wasn't planning on going for anything posh like stainless or chrome as I'd need to be able to weld it all together I guess with my mig and my welds won't be that pretty.. I've seen some slip on things though and would these just need clamping instead of welding?

I used a 2" stainless steel pip from the manifold to the silencer. The silencer is from a 1200 Bandit. This bolt to the pipe with 3 dome head bolts.

Raw do a 5" not badly priced here

Ok well I've picked up a bandit 1200 can with link pipe for £35 delivered which seemed pretty good :) So it's just the piping from the manifold to the can to sort now. I'd love to go stainless but I doubt I'd be able to weld it with my mig and skills :( I was thinking of just using mild steel and then covering in vht paint. So what sort of wall thickness should I be using for that?

The only thing to be careful of with bike cans is they are quite loud, maybe worth doing a db test prior to iva to avoid a daft fail if using one
CVHs arent exactly fire breathing monsters though so you should be ok hopefully! |
Ya I was thinking of getting the garage down the road from my house todo a pretend mot on the car before iva and make sure they check things like sound & emmisions for me ;) If the sound is still too high I can always add a db killer I guess.

On the 1200 bandit can I have it is marked as 80db, plus a load of Japanese which I don't understand.
When I have had mine running the exhaust is very quiet compared to the induction nosie from the carbs!! |
Cool I should be ok then :) Least with it coming with the linkage pipe I should be able to just cut that down and then run a length of the flexible exhaust pipe from that up to the manifold with a couple of clamps and some paste to seal it up :)
