More donor questions! XR4x4
 

Another question on donors - what are the differences with a 4x4 donor? What gearboxes did these cars have and are there any issues I should be aware of using one as a donor? Cheers.

4 x 4 fordies all use MT75 & have front diff in sump. 99% sure any way!

Thanks - is it a standard MT75 or are there some "gubbins" that make it 4x4 ready?

It's a special box, the front prop comes out of a casting that's part of the box.

i have read get the 4x4 box take off the the lump that does 4x4 (propshaft end ) mate standard end of mt75 and you have got ultimate desirable ratios and strength its called a hybrid in racing circles
if what i,ve just posted is wrong please amend

In my humble opinion the Cosworth T5 has the best ratios but is still lots of dosh so the V6 Type 9 has the next best ratios but needs a 30mm spacer between box and Pinto bell housing because of the longer input shaft

Both type 9 and MT75 were used in 4x4 Sierras.

You can't remove the Transfer casing from the MT75, you need a 4pot RWD MT75 and then have a Trans specialist swap over the front casing from the V6 4x4 to the RWD box.

T5 Won;t fit the V6 without a special belhousing.

Type 9 can be converted to RWD by geting hold of the RWD tailcasing and associated parts, but it's a lot of hassle.
