![]() Hi guys, I'm now at the stage when I need to buy a header tank for my car but I have no clue which one to buy (rover, golf, corsa ect)
I want to mount by the nose cone and I've seen that some people are using one from a corsa. I realise the cap pressure would be wrong (pinto) so can I just stick the cap off the sierra tank onto it, or would it be the wrong thread? Hopefully someone can help as I'm more confused than when I started looking. Cheers |

![]() I used a spherical VAG header tank off some Škoda. Apparently, similar ones were used in Passats and many other VAG cars. You can get a new one for ~10 quid. I didn't pay too much attention to the pressure cap, but they are standard service items, available in a range of pressures, I'm sure.

![]() cap pressure is not an issue if using the same cap for the bottle it came with, the cap pressure affects boiling point, some ford systems run at 20 psi and more in some jap cars.
It does not look pretty but the one I fitted to the Teamtrain Saturn race car was from the G20 donor car and square ally fitted with old ford yellow cap on the bulkhead as high as possible to get rid of the air.

![]() The fluid level in the tank is several centimetres above the vent point on the thermostat housing, which should be the highest point of water in the engine.
So it should be fine, I think.

![]() I,m intrigued
![]() Why fit the header tank under the nose ? My thoughts are ......once the nose is on its then very difficult to remove the cap & top up , For this reason I have fitted the original Sierra header tank on the scuttle bulkhead panel, its high up & easy to get to ......or am I missing something ? ![]() heres mine below ![]() |
