![]() I know most people use bike carbs but I would much prefer to keep the standard injection.
Is this possible? Still trying to get my head round this pats thing but if I used engine, ecu, keys, transponder from the same car. Would that work or need aftermarket ecu and loom? |

Personally I would use bike carbs and megajolt as you can unlook more power that way, with the stock system you have the same power as the donor which for the 2.0L is way down on what you can get out of it. ![]() Last edited by Big Vern : 25th August 2012 at 12:08 PM. |

![]() I see, didn't realise there were other items that would affect it such as headlights.
I don't have a donor but one without pats is going to be very rare. The reason for doing this is that there are never any pre 95 engines for sale and I would also prefer a newer engine as there are lots around cheap and should be more reliable. Another question, do all zetec's have the same wiring/connectors? Could I use a newer engine but try to find a ecu/loom from a car without pats? And when I find a donor, pats or no pats. How hard is it to remove the loom? I've heard it can be a bit of a nightmare. |

You are way of the mark. The immobilizer can be armed and disarmed with it sat on my dinning table. http://youtu.be/I0a4Eg0e2bw The eec 4 +5 ecu's are not of a canbus design. The 97 on ecu's are much nicer than older ecu's due to suporting Obd2. I can connect my phone to the ecu and monitor its perimiters. Why disable the pats ? Its very easy to use if you have the rdif chip from the key and gives your kit what was a thatcham aproved immobilizer. Ive been doing them for years, its a much better set up than webers and bike carbs and will pass iva (with a cat) with NO messing. Any one want to donate a jag s type as I fancy a new challange and it should also be ford bassed. http://youtu.be/Pxq4ks2Us_U http://youtu.be/BKqeCjdBM0w

![]() Yeah I did know there was a mod needed to the inlet, there were companies making them but can't seem to find any.
I can't seem to find anything on the wiring either, which has to be the hardest part. I'm sure there will be others that have done this whether it be a roadster or any other car. Let me know how you get on Last edited by Shorty : 23rd August 2012 at 06:03 PM. |

![]() There is a guy in Chopwell that can possibly take the pats off.

![]() I'm running a Zetec 2.0 from a 1993 Mondeo with standard intake and ECU. I'm building a left hand drive roadster. You will have a hard time routing the steering shaft around the manifold (but it is doable), the access to your master cylinder will not be very simple, but otherwise it is not impossible.
Here's a pic of how much space you should expect: My current problem is that the diameter of the throttle body flange is 70 mm, but the space between the flange and the bonnet is around 60 mm. So it's not very easy to fit the intake bend under the bonnet, and scoops don't normally extend there.

![]() i'm guessing you were lucky enough to find an ecu without PATS.
I see that is very tight but shows that it is possible. flyerncle. I didn't know it was possible to remove the PATS system but that would be handy, I was also thinking it would be useful to keep as would count as a security device for SVA. |

![]() I would have thought that as long as you have everthing from the original car it should work.
I intend to use a X20XEV out of my old Vectra and kept the ECU, transponder, ignition barrel and keys for this very reason. |

![]() My understanding is that all early Zetecs were without PATS. Definitely Mondeo of the 1993 model year. Having a pre-1995 engine is useful in the sense of exhaust emissions, too. Later ones practically need a catcon to pass the emissions test.
