Default Tolerances

What kind of tolerances have people built their chassis's to?

I've started bracing up my chassis with the 19x19mm tube and with DR5/6 (possibly), 1 side is about 3-4mm longer than the other. Im not entirely sure why, im going to go back in there later on to try and find out why. If i were to just make 1 of the pieces 3-4mm longer to fit perfectly in the gap would it be a big no no? If i were to just to do that, what issues might it cause?

Cheers
