Default Gear Lever clearance?

How much clearance should there be between the gear lever and the top of the transmission tunnel (the most forward rail).
From measuring the engine and GB it seems the front of the lever will be very close to the tunnel top. Is this correct or should I push the engine back slightly to give a bit more clearance?

I'm using a pinto+type9.
