I have been dabling with Arduino Micro controllers every now and then, until recently I have not had any firm projects but have actually got a number of applications now.

Pond Control Alarm Moving Head DMX lamp Ligthing Desk DMX... Whilst doing research and brainstorming for these ( Including finding a Buzzer and programming it to play the 5 notes from "Close Encounters") I came across the speeduino engine management system. It seems like a reasonable project mounting a sensor/driver shield on a Arduino Mega. I doubt it would come close to a MeggaSquirt but it's interesting all the same. A built Shield is $160 but I don't know about shipping to the UK or indeed if it is even worth playing with. It looks like it actually hails from Australia. Anyone seen or used it. TT

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but this is what I intend to use on my build too. The guy that is driving the project runs an MX5 so it should be straight forward.

It's not intended to be a replacement for some of the higher end off the shelf ECUs, but it does fit well with the build it yourself idea. I was looking at the BOM of materials and it came to about £40 I think (I've got the spreadsheet for it all somewhere). The designs for the PCB are opensource and we can have them printed anywhere. Might be worth doing a run of them? Geedle. |

I have never found a decent Source for LowVol PCB manufacture in the UK.

US has them in abundance ![]() With a BOM of £40 and a low price PCB it would be a gr8 project. TT

			 Hi,

I found a couple that I am sure are China based given the cost and lead time. But it does sound like a great project. I think for IVA it would present a problem as the immobiliser element of the standard setup would be lost. Easy enough to get round I think. 2 circuits associated with starting need to be disabled. Can't be too hard. Geedle. |

where in the IVA does it say you need an imobaliser?

I'm reading section 13A. But on re-reading, does the steering lock + ignition switch suffice? That said, last time I read, I was sure I found something about the requirement to disable two circuits.

			 Two Methods of Disabling.

So yes locking the column and needing a KEY to start are two accepted methods. TT

Ahh - I had assumed (wrongly) that the transponder found in keys and the phisical key were the two. That makes it easier!

Did anyone go down this route in the end? Assembled megasquirt ecu’s aren’t much cheaper than Emerald ecu’s these days which goes against the on a budget spirit of things.
