One thing springs to mind,the capacity of the bike tank in relation to size will be different to a car fuel tank. I would think a problem would be calibrating it relavent to the car tank in relation to size and shape of the bike tank.

Must agree with Snapper on pump/filter, it worked before and why waste money.

Why not mock something up in carboard or ply and see if it does what you want.

Not wanting to urinate on the pryotechenics (pi$$ on the bonfire) but discusion and other peoples thoughts are what forums are for and I am interested to see what other people think too.
How far the arm travels is the important bit and I think you are right in thinking that a longer arm will do the trick and try it dry before you fill the tank.
