On many engine stands the gearbox bolts aren't long enough. I used to bolt Rover V8s to stands with lengths of ordinary studding, never had one drop off. Probably best to get the correct length of bolts from a bolt and nut stockists, though, they will have plenty of 8.8 or better.

Have you identified the threads yet? If not, may I suggest investing in a calipers and a thread gauge, and a Zeus book
