It should be fine David. The most difficult part will be refitting the brushes, incidently I'd fit new brushes unless the old ones are nearly new.

I once went to the Lucas factory and the guys there used a wire hook to hold them in place while the put the commutator in.

I use electrical switch cleaner to clean the windings and commutator.
