Why a minimum of 15's???

The haynes roadster was designed around 15" wheels with I think 195/50x15 suggested as the tyre size. So the handling is likely to be best suited to these size tyres. The wheel arches are also designed for these wheels though so long as your rolling diameter is the same as for 195/50x15 then I can see no problem with the wheel arches. ie you could use lower profile 16" or 14" with greater profile - though the handling wont be as sharp as the slip angle increases with increase in profile.
Best bet for those wheels would be to find a Capri or Escort website.
Friend of mine had a set like that on her 3.0S Capri.

Well pointed out Les I'd forgotten that - they're likely to be ET 12 or ET19
and the HR will need ET37 - 41

You need 15” wheels to clear the rear upright. The bolts on the bottom wish bone run very close to the inner wheel rim.

as frankie says its nothing to do with the ofset. its the fact that anything less than a 15inch wheel wont clear the bottom of the rear uprights. you can possibly get 14's on if you use rose joints instead of bushes but its still a squeeze

You can use 14"s but you have to mod the rear uprights slightly when making them the lower section needs to be shortened by 5mm effectively raising the lower wisbone 5mm giving the necessary clearance

This problem had not occurred to me mainly because I'm going to use MX-5 running gear and intend to use the MX-5 upright complete and just fabricate my own 'bones to suit. I should then be able to use stock 14" wheels
