Well, if it's not blue smoke that's good news, blue smoke comes from burning oil - black smoke comes from a mixture problem. The fact that it reduces when you open the choke is good, as soon as it has some warmth in it the choke should be fully open - I assume yours is autochoke? Try disconnecting it and keeping the choke open for starters. Is the choke air inlet open or do you have an air filter? If you have a filter, take it off for now, see if it makes it better. I don't know the carb on your engine but I would be about 90 per cent certain that's where your problems lie. Your car is running seriously rich - an air leak would make it run lean, the only thing that can make it run rich is overfueling which is down to the carb.
