rs2000 engine
what ho chaps.
whilst waiting for the insurance to cough up after my break in,i have started to reconsider the possible engine choices again. i like the idea of bike engine performance but also car engine torque. the fella next door has a rs 2000 dohc escort engine 150 bhp standard for sale,is this a viable choice?or should i go zetec or bike or alfa or!!!!!!! to many choices and to much time on my hands thanks to the robbing gits who broke into and emptied my garage. andy |

there are few things you can do with this engine i would go for the 2.3 version found in the galaxy if setup right you could get 180bhp outa it. but there is some people claiming 300bhp with calibra pistons and turbo

I've got a 2.0 RS2000 engine going into my kit car. Some things ideally need changing. The sump should ideally be changed to a RWD one off the twinky, remembering to grab the oil pick up and dipstick at the same time. Then you'll need a spigot bearing off the twinky for the RWD type 9 to go into. The thermostat housing isn't ideal and a little bulky, but will fit.
Oh and you'll also need a suitable clutch and matching flywheel. The one off a 1.8 cvh or mondeo seems popular. As mentioned if your going to tune it, you'll struggle to get off the shelf parts for it. But I've seen a few (on escorts) running well into 175bhp for only a couple of hundred quid. They are cheap though, and when you compare getting a zetec to 180bhp to rs2000, the savings can be huge. Also most RS2000 engines are cat exempt for the IVA, another big saving and it makes the build easier. |

the 2.3 requires a bit of work as it has harmonic balancer shafts, they can be removed but it leaves a small section of block missing that needs recreating.

Bike engine, buy nice cheap doner bike and take everything from it, motor, rad, oil cooler, horn, loom, anything over 1000cc plenty of torque, half the torque of car engine but half the weight of a family car and similar power and they rev to 11000 not to mention 6 speed sequential box.
Just my thoughts ha ha |

My thoughts on the bike engine are that installation is expensive with reverse boxes, props, gear change linkage, etc. and they don't tend to have much torque 80 ft/lbs average with only the big engines having more.
