What do you mean by modded chassis from scratch?

If you are building a new chassis, which I presume you are if you are building a roadster, then you get 5 points for it. A few photos of the build process and receipts for the steel is all you need.

You are the manufacturer of the new chassis, it doesn't have to be bought from someone else.

I know it differs from office to office but at my recent dvla inspection, the girl inspecting it said, if it wasnt the original doner engine i would automatically get a Q

Drurys recent build contradicts this but i wouldnt put any hope on an age related without using only 1 donor car

I think I should just build what I want and if it gets age related then all the better. I might write a letter to the test center and tell them my plans and see what they say.

Thats probably the best thing to do as you will get contradicting info from different people on here as we all get different info from our local offices!

Hi, book a week off work, get yourself a bottle of whisky & some large packets of crisps and stuff and then ring the dvla, Oh and make yourself comfortable, it`s long winded!

Seriously though, I think many people have an age related plate without the donor engine but with everything else donor related, but the problem is you can`t really prove anything is from the donor except the engine, it`s the only thing with a number. You have to rely on the inspector`s common sense & be polite etc. It also seemed to help that I had a dating letter for the non donor sourced engine too.

Bottom line is it`s not a given you`ll get an age related plate at all, but it`s certainly possible if you go about it the right way.

Dennis.

New chassis and two major components is all you need.

The girl advising non original engine gets a Q plate is quite clearly wrong when you look at the DVLA'a own info sheets.

Mine is age related. It has a different engine to the donor and I didn't even have a V5 for the donor because it needed a VIC when I got it and it was dismantled without ever having the ID check.

All I had were a few photo's of the partially dismantled donor to show where any of the parts had come from and some build photo's.

"Kit Conversions
This is where a kit of new parts is added to an existing vehicle or old parts are added to a kit comprising a manufactured body, chassis or monocoque bodyshell. The general appearance of the vehicle will change and result in a revised description on the registration certificate.
A vehicle will retain its donor registration mark if either the original unmodified chassis or unaltered monocoque bodyshell and two other major components are used. If a new monocoque bodyshell or chassis from a specialist kit manufacturer is used (or an altered chassis or bodyshell from an existing vehicle) together with two major components from a donor vehicle, an age related mark will be assigned. The mark will be based on the age of the donor vehicle. An IVA, ESVA, SVA or MSVA test will be required to register the vehicle." - dvla website

No worries, not annoying questions but not getting to use a cherished number could be
