sound like I will be more or less OK then with a little tweaking of the brakets.

The thing you need to make sure is right is that the area where the poly bush sits in the bracket is square to the end of the crush tube.

Yeah I thought about that. what I am going to do is make up a 44mm long block the width/height of the bush.

Then spread the bracket, fit the block and then clamp up the bracket to fold it back flush against the block making it nice and square. therby making it sit correctly in the apature.

Sounds like a plan. you could turn a dummy slightly larger diameter than the bushes and fit that between each bracket to slightly remodel the brackets whilst keeping them square.

A 1U Network switch is 44.45mm heigh.

Must have something kicking around to do the job.
