If your bush tubes are still bare metal inside where the bushes locate i would definately take them out before you paint them, they will inevitably get wet one day you will get rust forming inside the tube.

Granted the rust would take years to do any real damage but i wouldnt want signs of rust forming around the end of the tubes on mine after all the time and hard work it takes making them!

I took mine out after they had been fitted and it wasnt that difficult to remove them just be careful with them, i pushed the crush tubes out first then pushed the bushes out from inside rather than prising at them from the outside

If you do paint inside the tubes dont over do it though as your bushes will be even tighter on re-assembly
