1.8 Cvh keeps stalling..
today i was trying to double check my prop was balanced but every time i tried to get it started the engine kept on stalling.
I havnt run the engine for some time now but cant see any reason why it just cuts off. Most of the time it doesnt start unless i put a tiny bit of fuel down the carb, at which point it will start, but after about 5-10 sec the engine will just stall. If i start revving it abit it will run for about 20-30 sec, but again it still stalls after that. Im not sure what it could be, but i thought it would be a fueling problem, so i ran it from a bottle to the fuel line and fuel flow seemed fine. it does seem to idle quite high and still is running rich from what i can see? any suggestions? i have tried playing with the idle speed and air/fuel screws on the carb but not to much success, i could be being a complete idiot with them though.. Thanks!

That was my second thought after fuel which geeman seems to have eliminated.

not sure why its stalling but I had a similar problem with my CVH engine running a fast tickover, took me ages to work out what was causing it
It was traced to the automatic choke stepper rotor thats between where the throttle cable linkage at the carb & the carb body, As I,m not using the auto choke its not connected but the stepper rotor was sitting at the higher revs position as if it was "thinking" it was a cold engine, I think there are 3 steps on the rotor so I just "adjusted" ( fixed in 1 position ) at the lower setting & hey bingo it solved the high tickover problem Might be a similar problem on your engine cheers andy |

The should sit at 2000rpm for initial cold idle.

Hi, i didnt really look at the engine today as i was busy bolting on all the bodywork, however i did find a leak in my chopped sump. Its dripping about a drop of oil every 2 days( i left paper under the sump to see if any oil drops). Apart fromt hat i cant seem to find any leaks. Could that explain why, other than that all that i have changed on the engine are sprak plugs and an oil filter, and tinkering with the carb.
Handyandy, ill have a look at what you said as i did notice that as well a month or 2 ago when i last tried to run the engine. Other than that im looking set to finish the car in about 2-3 weeks. I have to mount the front wheel arches, front indicators, change 1 or 2 bits of the wiring, fit some seats(once i get them) and buy some shocks, the price tag of which is still putting me off, whcih i know will end up costing me extra time as it is much harder to put the shocks on now.. cant wait till its done!!!
