Problem solved!!!
 After a bit of fiddling while I was at the shed to check toe in and out I thought i'd take off the steering wheel and line it up correctly.... Looks like I hadn't tightened the nut up properly as I am now getting in the area of 1.75 turns centre to full lock both ways.... In the words of James May..... Oh C*ck  Cheers for the help anyways guys Russ
