![]() cheapest way i found to do this was to buy a set of taps from ebay and cut the sierra rack down, drill and tap the end and make it the book spec length, think the taps cost me about £5 and an hour on the saw and lathe

![]() george that wont work. its the actual body of the rack that need shortening to get the pivot points correct. what you have done will cause tones of bump steer and find you the nearest ditch/solid object as soon as you hit a rut in the road

![]() ye sorry thats what ive done, didnt exlplain it that well. cut the body down by remopving a section from the middle and had it tigged back and removed the same amount from the shaft then faced, drilled and tapped the end of the shaft and threadlocked the knuckle back in. cleaned the whole thing, new grease, reassembled then fitted, seems to work like a dream

![]() I was wondering, if the rack is getting rebuilt anyway, perhaps it's worth searching for tie rods that are the right length and with the right threads so that there is no need for the steering rack extensions?
