It turned out to be a bad pump, bought another one and it pumps great. I wonder if these pumps have a diaphram in them that breaks down or something. The old one didnt seem to have much suction unlike the new one.
The resistor is a good tip for anyone with a zx9r, I just got a 1/2 watt one from maplins it seems to work fine.
