![]() I've been looking for a pre 95 1.8 zetec to put in for IVA but been offered a Qreg Carlton Commando kit car with a 2L carb dizzy pinto for £175. It comes with two gearboxes (4 spd) and being based on a cortina I could probably flog the uprights and back axle (and maybe the Reg
![]() I'm undecided. What are the pros and cons of both motors. I'm aware that the exhaust exits opposite sides so swaapping at a later date means a lot of work.

![]() Personally I'd try and get the pinto running before parting with any cash.
Don't forget you need to be able to prove your engine's age to qualify for a non-cat IVA emmissions test, which may be difficult to prove with the pinto as it has already be transplanted once. If you intend doing swap post IVA anyway, a CVH may be an easier engine to source. Sorry, I know bugger all about Zetecs.

I may not be able to prove identity but should imagine that so long as the number is legible I can prove the age. Hopefully. I really did see me end up with a 2L zetec eventually so am still undecided.

It doesn't matter with Pinto's as they stopped fitting them in cars during 1989 and in transits in 1992. You only need to prove the age of the engine. The age of the vehicle it came out of is generally ignored. A tired Pinto will cost more to rebuild and there are plenty of good Zetec silvertops still about that you couldbolt straight in. BV. |

![]() Yes Ash that's the reason I'm still undecided. I'm still looking for a whole cheap escort or Mondeo so I can use the original ignition/ injection system to save cash. The Carlton offer will be open to me for a long time cos the guy is not bothered whether it sells or not.

![]() Think if you compared the same car with a zetec you would be well impressed with the extra urgency to rev compared with the lazy characteristic's of the pinto. Not called a boat anchor for nothing
