Hello All.

Can anybody shed a little light on the above, as in a formula for bolt diameter and length versus torque setting for certain bolts.

Maximum torque values for metric bolts can be found here http://www.cncexpo.com/MetricBoltTorqueNm.aspx
But value for every bolt is application specific and should be calculated individually.

I normally tighten big bolts up until I fart

You could always use my little brothers approach, Tighten them up until they shear, then back them of half a flat

There is always the universal torque setting of "F" tight

Ronnie,I manage that with no effort so there would no indication of torque on the bolt just stress on the waistband
